Belinda Syme was born in Melbourne and has
lived in the UK since 1980. She trained in graphic
design at Swinburne College of Technology
(Melbourne) and painting at Sir John Cass School
of Art, London. During the 1990s she read for a
BA and MA in Art History and Archaeology at the
School of Oriental and African Studies.
“I paint landscapes which are influenced by
my travels and Australia, where I grew up.
Occasionally I use visual references but more
often paint from memory and imagination. As a
result my images range from fairly realistic to
abstract. I like to use various materials and
experiment with techniques - masking, over
painting, scraping away and drawing into the
compositions which express my concerns relating to the order,
symmetry and destruction of the landscape, both natural and
man-made."
Belinda Syme mainly exhibits and sells from her
studio in north London. Her work is represented in
private collections in Australia, Great Britain,
Europe and the USA.
