Belinda Syme was born in Melbourne, Australia
and has lived in the UK since 1980. She trained in
graphic design in Melbourne and painting at Sir
John Cass School of Art, London. During the
1990s she read for a BA and MA in Art History
and Archaeology at the School of Oriental and
African Studies.
“I paint landscapes which come from my
travels and Australia, where I grew up.
Occasionally I use particular visual references but
more often paint from imagination and memory,
and as a result my images range from fairly
realistic to abstract. Colour, composition and
unexpected spatial relations are what interest me
the most, while concerns relating to destruction,
order and symmetry – both natural and man-made –
permeate the subject matter."
Belinda Syme mainly exhibits and sells from her studio in
north London. Her work is represented in private
collections in Australia, Great Britain, Europe and the
USA.
